Frequently asked questions

Are the bowls portioned to be exactly 15.00 grams of carbohydrates?

They have a very accurate approximation. As well, doctors and nutritionists recommend around 15 grams of carbs for a snack. Not exactly 15.00 grams of carbs.

We very much believe in and stand behind the usefulness, quality, and life changing capacity of our products. The truth is it’s difficult to promise exact accuracy for 3 reasons:

  1. Nutrition information labels on food products are not regulated, tested, or verified by the supplier for accuracy. More information here: https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3605747/
  2. Every nutrition database differs slightly in their nutrition information for a particular food. For example, the amount of cashews that is equal to 15 grams of carbohydrates can be different across each nutrition database.
  3. Due to a variety of natural factors, foods can be inconsistent in their carbohydrate amount. The nutritional content of one strawberry doesn’t necessarily 100% match the nutrition of another strawberry the same size.

Our solution was to use the nutrition data across multiple databases and multiple food brands to create a reference average in testing our bowls. This how we created our serving amounts. We wanted to be as thorough as possible in our design process, offering you the best snack serving amount possible with the data available.

How were the bowls tested to determine the carbohydrate amount?

We used the nutrition data across multiple databases and multiple food brands to create a more accurate reference average in testing our bowls. The databases we referenced were the USDA FoodData Central database, Nutritionix, and CalorieKing.

What foods are meant to be used for each bowl?

For best accuracy, the foods meant for each snack bowl are:

  • The berries bowl is meant for whole strawberries, blueberries, blackberries, and raspberries.
  • The popcorn bowl is meant for normal popcorn. Butter, salt, or zero carb seasoning is okay. Popcorn with added sugar, like kettle corn or caramel corn, has drastically more carbohydrate content and isn’t applicable to our snack bowls.
  • The chips bowl is meant for normal potato chips or tortilla chips. Please test on your own.
  • The crackers bowl is meant for either golden round crackers or saltine crackers. Filling the crackers bowl with other kinds of crackers will vary more in carbohydrate amount. Please test on your own.
  • The nuts bowl is meant for either whole cashews, unshelled pistachios, or almonds. Using other types of nuts, cashew pieces, shelled pistachios, or flavored nuts will vary more in carbohydrate amount. Please test on your own.

What are the bowls made of?

We followed recommendations from doctors and our diabetic community in choosing the bowls' material. Our bowls are made from melamine and 100% non-toxic materials. We chose melamine so that the bowl’s are stronger and shatter-resistant if dropped.

Are the bowls dishwasher safe?

Yes. For product longevity, place bowls on the top rack of your dishwasher.

Are the bowls microwavable?

No, they are not microwavable.

Are these medical products?

No. Macro™ does not make medical products. Our products are NOT intended to diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent any disease. Regularly visit your doctor and consult them for any medical advice.

What is your return policy?

We have a 30-day return policy. Refer to our return policy page for further details.
